Queer ravers in Japan, Indonesia and the Netherlands bring the feminist legacies of three women writers into the present through dance, reading and performance.
On queer dance floors in Tokyo, Yogyakarta and Rotterdam, ravers celebrate Japanese author Fumiko Hayashi, Indonesian author Suwarsih Djojopuspito and Dutch-Indonesian author Beb Vuyk. Writing from the 1930s to the 1950s, these women challenged patriarchal and nationalist politics. Through collective reading, performance and improvisation, contemporary queer artists, activists and researchers bring their feminist legacies into dialogue with the struggles and creative practices of today.
