Dutch youth films presented in New York

New York International Children’s Film Festival takes place from March 2 - 17

A handful of Dutch youth films are selected to be part of this years International Children’s Film Festival in New York.

Future 400
Three films are screening in the Future 400: Native Cultures, New Communities program. In recognition of the 400th anniversary of the Dutch arrival to New Amsterdam (now NYC), the films with the Future 400 tag celebrate the cultural richness of indigenous communities and highlight outstanding cross-cultural storytelling. Future 400 is an initiative of the Dutch Culture USA program of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in New York. The three Dutch participants are:

Lioness (prod. Levitate Film) by Raymond Grimbergen
Festival selections include: Kristiansand ICFF, Poznañ International Young Audience FF - Ale Kino!,  Chicago ICFF and Giffoni IFF where it won two awards: the Award for Best Film Elements 10+ section and the Lete Special Award. 

Kung Fu Lion** (prod. Flinck Film) by Froukje Tan
Festival selection include: Brussels ICFF - Filem'on, Cinekid and Chemnitz IFF for Children and Youth - Schlingel.

Where is Anne Frank** (NL co-prod: Submarine) by Ari Folman
World premiered at Cannes in 2021, followed by many festival selections, among others Toronto IFF and Sarajevo FF. It screened at New York ICFF in 2022 and is back in this year’s festival edition in a special program. 

Short Film section
In the short film section, two Dutch films are included: 


Swimming With Wings* (NL co-prod. Valk Productions) by Daphna Awadish
Festival selections include: Ottawa IAFF, DOKLeipzig, FIPAdoc and Olympia IFF where it won the ECFA Documentary Film Award. 

Monsters (prod. Scenery) by Lotte Salomons
Festival selections include Cinekid and Netherlands FF.
