In the rapidly changing society of 1960, textile worker Johanna is struggling to find her purpose in life. She refuses to accept a life in the service of her employer, her father, or her future husband and children. When Italian guest labourers arrive at the textile factory, the ambitious Francesco opens Johanna’s eyes to a new perspective. So instead of following a path expected of her by her community, Johanna takes matters into her own hands.
