One Dutch feature and two shorts are off to Brooklyn to attend BFF.
Still: The Holy Trinity - Martijn van de Griendt
The Holy Trinity by Martijn van de Griendt will be celebrating its US premiere in the Documentary Feature section. It is a coming-of-age film about three best friends from Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Filmmaker Van de Griendt captures them during the summer of their high school graduation. He paints a loving portrait of young people dealing with insecurities, loneliness, friendship and love. The director will be attending a Q&A after the screening on the 6th of June.
Having fled the Liberian civil war, renowned self-taught artist Johnson Weree is seeking asylum in the Netherlands where he lives undocumented and without a fixed address. Haunted by the horrors of his past, he draws bright-coloured otherworldly portraits, whilst longing for a brighter future. Short film Weree, by multiple award-winning filmmaker Tal Amiran, is part of the Documentary Short section.
Lastly, in the Animation category is Israeli-Dutch co-production Swimming With Wings* (Valk Productions). The film by Daphna Awadish world premiered at Ottawa International Animation Festival where it received an honorable mention. Further festival selections include DOKLeipzig, Anima in Brussels, New York International Children's Festival & Kaboom. It is a short animated documentary exploring the immigration experience through the eyes of a little Israeli girl learning how to swim with clothes on in the Netherlands. Festival distribution is done by Studio Wasa, sales handled by SND Films.
