The Festival in Germany is set to showcase a selection of Dutch documentaries this year. Here's a look at the three films that are making their mark at the festival.
Still: Nice Ladies - Mariia Ponomarova
Mariia Ponomarova's Nice Ladies* (prod. Labyrint Film) offers a compelling exploration of women's lives in today’s society. This feature documentary about a team of ageing Ukrainian cheerleaders that navigate the trauma of war in their own way, recently world premiered at Movies that Matter. Sales are handled by Cat&Docs. Nelson the Piglet (prod. Hazazah Pictures), written and directed by Anneke de Lind van Wijngaarden, brings joy and wonder to young viewers with the tale of an adventurous little piglet. Having world premiered at IDFA, it is now making an addition to the Kids DOK section in Leipzig.
In Marching in the Dark* (min. co-prod. SNG Film), Kinshuk Surjan presents ompelling story about a vicious circle and the first steps towards a resilient women’s movement. This Dutch minority co-production, which had its world premiere at CPH:DOX, is making an entry in the Audience Competition.
