After internment, Paula seeks belonging with relatives she never met.
In 1946, recently repatriated Paula struggles to find a sense of home in Friesland, the Netherlands, after surviving a Japanese internment camp. Taken in by unfamiliar family, she feels tolerated but not accepted. When brown rot appears on the potato farm, suspicion falls on her. Once again, she must survive but this time she has a choice.
