Dutch experimental film focus at LUFF

This fall, Eye curator of experimental film Simona Monizza will present two programmes dedicated to the early days of the Dutch experimental films from the 60’s and 70’s at the Lausanne Underground Film & Music Festival (LUFF).

(Dutch Film Makers Coop: Lynne Tillman, Barbara Meter, Mattijn Seip, Niko Paape, Tom Chomont, Jos Schoffelen, Peter Erdmann, Kurt Kren)

The first program Electric Cinema: Dutch Film Coop, offers an overview of some of the filmmakers who circulated around the Dutch Film Makers Coop and their screening venue called Electric Cinema, which was an alternative, membership based venue where weekly screenings took place, curated by filmmaker Barbara Meter. Electric cinema only lasted 3 years but it fostered an intense exchange between Dutch and European filmmakers who were invited to show their films and tour The Netherlands.

Ariadne (Barbara Meter, 2004)

The second program Electric Cinema: Barbara Meter focuses on the work of Barbara Meter, a pioneer of experimental practises in The Netherlands. The program is based on the distribution program called Found Sounds, curated by Mónica Savirón. The selected films testify to Barbara’s amazing use of the optical printer to reach poetic and sensorial images.
