First Zone selected for Edinburgh International Film Festival

Dutch production First Zone, directed by Thom Lunshof, has been selected for the In Competition programme of the 2026 Edinburgh International Film Festival. The feature will compete for the prestigious Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence.

In First Zone, produced by Makaki Productionsa woman living in a wind turbine is torn away by a violent storm, prompting her to question whether the place she once called home still retains any meaning for her. Blending an intimate character study with striking imagery, the film explores themes of home, identity and belonging.

Running from 13 to 19 August, the Edinburgh International Film Festival is the world's oldest continually running film festival. Following its relaunch in 2024, the festival continues to honour more than seventy years of cinema history while presenting a renewed programme that is rooted in Scotland and embraces international filmmaking from around the world.
