A strong Dutch presence is part of the 2026 edition of the Young Horizons International Film Festival, with ten Dutch films and co-productions selected across a broad range of sections. The festival takes place from 25 September to 4 October in 48 cities across Poland, with Warsaw and Wrocław as its main locations.
Still: Dungeons & Spectrums - Wout Malestein
The Dutch selection is particularly notable in the Documentary Competition, where three Dutch short documentaries are selected.
In Dungeons & Spectrums*, Wout Malestein follows ten-year-old Ross, an autistic boy who learns socials skills through Dungeons & Dragons. The 15-minute documentary combines live action and animation. It is produced by Tangerine Tree.
Loes Janssen's Two Sides of Summer* takes a sensitive look at life after parental separation. Ten-year-old Xavi spends his summer holidays partly with his mother and partly with his father, and the film explores the reality of growing up between two households. The short documentary is produced by Harpy Films, and was made in co-production with EO.
The third short documentary, Go Hungary, is directed by Jasmijn Kooijman and Wyneke van Nieuwenhuyzen. The film is a coming-of-age portrait of queer teenage twins Nati & Dorka in populist Hungary. It was produced by DocNomads.
Also selected for the Documentary Competition is Fantastique*by Marjolijn Prins. The Belgium-France-Netherlands co-production follows fourteen-year-old Fanta in Guinea as she balances school, caring for her sick mother and her ambition to become an acrobat. The Dutch co-production partner is The Film Kitchen, alongside French and Belgian production partners. International sales are handled by Filmotor.
In the Main Competition, Frederike Migom's Everyone's Sorry Nowadays** will screen. The feature, based on Bart Moeyaert's novel, is a co-production with Juliet at Pupkin serving as the Dutch co-producer. International sales are handled by LevelK.
The Festival Favourites section features the animated family film Miss Moxy**, directed by Vincent Bal and Wip Vernooij. The Dutch-Belgian production was produced in the Netherlands by Phanta Animation. Studio 100 International handles sales.
